Poll Please Empty Canal

Could everyone who's anyone who's alive please vote in the poll? Yeah? Thanks.

The question is, Which sounds better/is grammatically superior?:

A: a canal (which, despite being empty, served as a symbolic moat.)
B: a canal (which served as a symbolic moat, despite being empty.)
C: a canal (despite being empty, it served as a symbolic moat.)

I know it's partly dependent upon context, but why would I care to include that kind of information? I mean, I posted this in like ten minutes, I don't have time for making it sensible.
